Cotton garments, home textiles and leather shoes from India
You want cotton knitwear, towels, bedsheets or leather shoes, and you want them close to the Gulf. India's west coast ports sit a short sea leg from Jebel Ali, Jeddah and Dammam, and close to East Africa.
India's strongest lines for stock lots
| Line | Main hubs | Typical goods |
|---|---|---|
| Cotton knitwear | Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu | T-shirts, innerwear, kids and baby wear |
| Home textiles | Panipat in Haryana, Karur in Tamil Nadu, Solapur | Bedsheets, towels, cushion covers, curtains |
| Kids wear | Several apparel centres | Sets, frocks, nightwear |
| Leather footwear | Agra, Ambur | Formal shoes, sandals, casual leather shoes |
Home textiles are where India stands out. Towels and bedsheets from Solapur and Panipat suit household stores and hotel supply buyers. See home textile stock lots, kids wear stock lots and footwear stock lots.
Why Indian surplus appears
Indian exporters produce for buyers in many markets at once. When an order is cut, a colour is dropped or a delivery date is missed, the goods become surplus. Home textile mills also clear end-of-range designs. The stock is new and usually in export packing.
What to look at in an Indian lot
- Cotton quality. Ask for the fabric composition and, for towels, the weight per piece.
- Sets. For bedsheets, check whether pillow covers come in the set and confirm the bed sizes.
- Leather. Ask whether shoes are full leather or leather upper only, and see the sole.
- Design mix. Home textile lots carry many prints. Ask for a design sheet or photos per design.
- Labels. We tell you up front if brand labels stay on, get cut or need a release.
India to Saudi Arabia by short sea
| Destination | Origin port | Usual route |
|---|---|---|
| Jeddah and the west | Mundra or Nhava Sheva | Short sea leg across the Arabian Sea and up the Red Sea to Jeddah |
| Dammam and the east | Mundra or Nhava Sheva | Short sea leg to Dammam, or to Jebel Ali and on by road |
| Riyadh | West coast ports | Sea to Dammam then about 400 km by road, or rail to Riyadh Dry Port |
| Lots from the south | Chennai or Tuticorin | Sea to Jeddah or Dammam, sometimes via a hub |
Routes are confirmed per order. Saudi customs is run by ZATCA. You pay 15% import VAT, and most goods carry the GCC common external tariff of 5% on value, though some lines differ by HS code. Your importer of record needs a Commercial Registration and customs registration. SABER, the SASO conformity platform, applies to many consumer goods, and some textile, footwear and children's items fall under SASO technical regulations. Whether your lot needs a SABER certificate depends on the HS code, and we check that before shipping.
Towels, bedsheets and kids wear move well before back-to-school and the wedding season. City guides: Riyadh, Jeddah, Dammam, Al Khobar and Makkah.
India to Africa
India's west coast sits close to East Africa and the Horn. Lots sail to Mombasa for Kenya, Dar es Salaam for Tanzania, and Mogadishu or Berbera for Somalia. Djibouti serves Djibouti and onward transit to Ethiopia, where the buyer's bank handles the import permit and foreign currency. For Sudan, conditions at Port Sudan change fast, so we confirm whether the route is open before you commit. Further afield, Durban serves South Africa, Lagos serves Nigeria, and Alexandria or Port Said serve Egypt, where GOEIC factory registration applies to garments and home textiles.
