Surplus stock lots for South African importers
You import for stores in Gauteng or the coast and you know clothing duty can make or break a deal. We help you check landed cost before you buy.
Who imports lots into South Africa
Johannesburg is the country's largest commercial centre and a major distribution point for the whole region. Wholesalers, independent retailers and store groups buy imported goods there for shops across Gauteng and beyond. Our buyers are importers who hold their own customs registration and want new goods at lot cost.
Global Pioneer is a Dubai trading company. We have no office, licence or agent in South Africa. We source and ship. You, as the registered importer, clear the goods through your own clearing agent.
Work out landed cost before you commit
Many clothing lines carry high customs duty in South Africa. A lot that looks cheap at the source can cost much more once duty and VAT are added. So check the HS code of every line and ask your clearing agent for the landed cost before you agree a price. Footwear and home textiles have their own codes and rates. We give you a clear description, fibre content and HS code suggestion for each line so your agent can work fast.
From the ship to Gauteng
Durban is the busiest container port in sub-Saharan Africa. Most lots for Johannesburg land there and move up the N3 corridor by road or rail. Cape Town is the other main option, mostly for buyers in the Western Cape.
| Source | Port of discharge | Inland leg |
|---|---|---|
| Bangladesh, Chattogram with transshipment | Durban | Road or rail up the N3 to Johannesburg |
| China, Ningbo, Shanghai, Shenzhen or Qingdao | Durban or Cape Town | Road or rail to Gauteng |
| Vietnam, Cat Lai or Cai Mep-Thi Vai | Durban | Road or rail to Johannesburg |
| Cambodia, Sihanoukville via a hub such as Singapore | Durban | Road or rail to Johannesburg |
| India, Nhava Sheva, Mundra, Chennai or Tuticorin | Durban or Cape Town | Road or rail inland |
| Mixed lots via Jebel Ali | Durban | Road or rail to Gauteng |
Pick your source by category. See Bangladesh knitwear lots, China footwear and home goods, Vietnam sportswear and shoes, Cambodia travel goods and garments and India home textiles, or the source countries compared.
Importer checklist for South Africa
- SARS customs registration as an importer. You need this before the goods arrive.
- Country of origin labelling on textiles, clothing and footwear. Check that every piece carries the right label before shipping.
- Commercial invoice, packing list and bill of lading that match.
- Certificate of origin from the source country.
- HS code and fibre content per line, so duty is calculated correctly.
We confirm the documents per shipment. If a lot is missing origin labels, we tell you before you pay, not after.
What the lots contain
Our lots are new goods only: export surplus, cancelled orders, production overruns and end-of-season stock. We do not supply second-hand clothing. Categories include apparel for men, women and kids, kids wear, footwear, bags and accessories, home textiles, and lifestyle home goods. Minor-fault B-grade pieces are always disclosed.

Do I need SARS registration to import a stock lot?
Yes. The importer needs SARS customs registration before the goods arrive. Global Pioneer cannot import on your behalf because we have no entity in South Africa. Your clearing agent can help with the registration.
Why is duty on clothing stocklots so high in South Africa?
Many clothing lines carry high customs duty in South Africa. The rate depends on the HS code. Ask your clearing agent for the landed cost of each line before agreeing a price with us.
Do stocklot garments need country of origin labels in South Africa?
Yes. Textiles, clothing and footwear need country of origin labelling. We check the labels in the lot and tell you before you pay. Unlabelled goods can cause problems at clearance.
Which port is best for a stock lot going to Johannesburg?
Durban. It is the busiest container port in sub-Saharan Africa and connects to Johannesburg up the N3 corridor by road or rail. Cape Town suits Western Cape buyers.
Are the lots new or second-hand clothing?
New. All lots are export surplus, cancelled orders, overruns or end-of-season goods. We never trade second-hand clothing, and any B-grade pieces are listed in the packing list.
Can I buy home textiles and footwear lots for South Africa too?
Yes. India is strong for towels and bedsheets, and China and Vietnam for footwear. Check duty on each HS code with your agent, then send Kifayatullah the category you want.
Does Global Pioneer have an office in Johannesburg?
No. We are a Dubai trading company with no office, licence or agent in South Africa. We ship from the source country or Dubai to Durban or Cape Town.
